Watch World Famous Franchises form CBS with Paramount+ VPN
CBS Studios is one of the biggest broadcasters in the USA. It is home to many of the world’s biggest franchises. Paramount+ will be home to some of the biggest, including Star Trek and NCIS.
Star Trek is a cult classic franchise from the 1960s, becoming a worldwide phenomenon. It has given us some of the most iconic catchphrases, characters, and fantasy languages that are still alive in today’s pop culture. CBS All Access, in 2017, has decided to expand on this universe with Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller, beginning with Star Trek: Discovery (2017-). Set 10 years after the original Star Trek show, it follows the crew of the USSR Discovery on an adventure. The show has been critically acclaimed and loved by fans, due to its excellent writing and characters.
Winning multiple awards and appealing to fans, the Star Trek universe has been expanded on into different genres because of this show. Short Treks (2018-) is an anthology series, telling stand-alone stories that take place in between episodes of Discovery. Picard (2020) brings back Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Steward), and his journey after his retirement in Nemesis (2002). An animated comedy, known as Lower Deck (2020-), pokes fun at many of the franchises’ little quips. It’s entertaining and easy to understand, even for newcomers to the franchise.
Another legendary franchise that has been revived through CBS All Access are the JAG and NCIS franchises.
JAG (Justice Advocate General) ran from 1995 to 2005. The show revolves around uniformed lawyers, persecuting and defending criminal cases in the Navy under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. The show was one of the most successful shows of its time, climbing up the rankings and gaining various awards. This has led to the popular series NCIS (Navy Criminal Investigation Service).
Introduced in JAG season 8 ‘Ice Queen’ and ‘Meltdown’, this show features a fictional team of special agents from the Major Case Response Team (MCRT) investigating felonies linking to the United States Department of the Navy, including the Marine Corps. With natural chemistry between the cast, evolving premises and character development, NCIS has slowly become one of the most-watched shows in the USA. Eventually, it entered Broadcast syndication, being broadcast all over the world to varying degrees of success.
NCIS eventually added more spin-offs that interconnect with one another. These are NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans. Characters from JAG also appear in these shows as in NCIS: Los Angeles series 10 finale, where Harmon Rabb (David James Elliott) and Sarah MacKenzie (Catherine Bell) make a significant appearance after their fates were left unknown in the series finale of JAG.
Watch Exclusive Films and Programmes with Paramount+ VPN
Paramount+ is not only broadcasting CBS shows. It will also hold its exclusive films and is producing its programming. From their library at CBS All Access, there are more well-known networks associated with them. Nickelodeon, Showtime, and MTV are a few of these networks that will be exclusive to Paramount+, and this lead to exclusive film premieres and more.
The first film premiere will be The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. The last project of the original creator and executive producer Stephen Hillenburg, Sponge on the Run features SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny) going on an adventure to rescue Gary the Snail (Tom Kenny) from Poseidon (Matt Berry). The film also explores how SpongeBob meets Gary, as well as snippets of the cast in their youth at a summer camp. This film was also the prequel to the spin-off, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, a new show featuring the characters in their youth at a summer camp. With excellent acting from the regular cast, comedic moments in tune with the show as well as heartfelt moments, this film has received positive reviews and is entertaining for the entire family.
The film Sponge on the Run has been released internationally. A special premiere, in addition to the first 6 episodes of Kamp Koral, will be available on Paramount+ launch day.
Another exclusive program is The Offer. The Offer is a drama based on the making of The Godfather, featuring never released stories from Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy. The ten-part series is written, and executive produced by Oscar and Emmy nominee Michael Tolkin. Ruddy will also serve as executive producer for this series, along with Nikki Toscano and Leslie Greif as reported by Deadline. Whilst Armie Hammer has stepped down, it is not revealed who will be taking his place.
Another exclusive program to be on Paramount+ is Lioness. The synopsis released by ViacomCBS studios is below.
“Based on a real-life CIA program, it follows a young Marine recruited to befriend the daughter of a terrorist to bring the organization down from within.”
Whilst not much information is available as of yet on any cast members, it will be revealed soon. It has also been revealed that the streaming service will return MTV’s Behind The Music. The original series, released in 1997, showcased the life of rock and roll legends and how they came up with their music. The reboot called ‘MTV’s Behind the Music — The Top 40’ intends to do the same.
From all the information out there as well as constant updates, it is clear that there is something for everyone on this streaming service you cannot get anywhere else.
