The US Masters is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world. Held annually in early April at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA, the Masters attracts some of the world’s best golfers and is watched by millions of fans worldwide.

The tournament began in 1934 and has been held at Augusta National since 1939. The course is known for its challenging greens, picturesque scenery, and iconic landmarks such as Amen Corner, a series of holes that have become synonymous with the Masters.

Showers are forecast for Friday and there could be significant disruption on Saturday, with heavy rainfall likely. There should be no concerns on Thursday, as Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson hit the opening tee shots as honorary starters. The serious business then gets underway, with Mike Weir and Kevin Na the first pairing out at 1pm BST.
Jon Rahm is also among the favourites to go all the way in 2023, while LIV Golf players have also been accepted to play at Augusta, leading to inevitable tensions across the week. Sadly there will be no free highlights of the US Masters 2023 on BBC, ending a long tradition of free to air coverage dating back to 1967. The BBC has axed its coverage of The Masters as part of the company’s cost-cutting measures. The BBC’s existing deal with Augusta National Golf Club expired after the tournament last year and the broadcasting giants have reportedly given up any hopes of signing a new deal to broadcast The Masters, according to the Telegraph.
Earlier this year Rory Mcllroy admitted that it would be “unfortunate” if The Masters was no longer shown on the BBC. He said: “I think if you’re thinking nostalgically, yes, it is, growing up watching The Masters and The Open on BBC.
“I just think the landscape of sports and media and entertainment has changed so much in the last 10 years that it’s not the model anymore. It’s either Sky in the UK or its streaming services.”
