Crunch Time – European Football Preview with Liberty Shield VPN

CRUNCH TIME | EUROPEAN FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Things are simmering nicely across the continent as the climax approaches. The major European football leagues Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A and La Liga are streamed live by a selection of channels including Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and La Liga TV.

While this weekend’s Premier League fixtures don’t provide us with a must watch game, and with there only being two games on Sunday across the Premier League and FA Cup game, there are some outstanding games around Europe with most of them taking place on Sunday.

European Football Preview | Germany

Bayer Leverkusen vs RB Leipzig European Football

⚽ Bayer Leverkusen vs RB Leipzig
🇩🇪 Bundesliga
📅 Sunday 17 April 2022
⏰ 1830 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ Sky Sports Live Streaming

Two of the most entertaining teams in Germany meet on Sunday evening in what is a battle between 3rd and 4th in the Bundesliga table.

Leverkusen currently sit 3rd, a fantastic achievement in the clubs first season under Gerardo Seoane. It’s made even more impressive when you factor the injury that forced Patrick Schick to miss seven games, and the more recent season ending injury to Florian Wirtz. Seoane has quickly sculpted a hard working, attack minded team that is built around excellent young talent throughout the team. With Wirtz out, more of the attacking burden will fall on Mousa Diaby. Diaby is an outstanding young player who has been very impressive this season and Leverkusen will need him to carry on his good form if they want to secure Champions League football for next season.

Leipzig had a terrible start to the season and sacked Jesse Marsch early. Domenico Tedesco replaced the American and has done an outstanding job. Once the darling of German football when he had a brilliant first season at Schalke, Tedesco’s reputation took a hammering as Schalke unraveled. His time at Spartak Moscow wasn’t great but he has put together an impressive run since joining Leipzig, dragging them back to the top four and reaching the semi finals of the Europa League. With Christopher Nkunku in incredible form, and Dominik Szoboszlai starting to really show what he’s capable of, Leipzig are a threat to beat just about anyone right now.

European Football Preview | France

PSG vs Marseille European Football.jpg

⚽ PSG vs Marseille
🇫🇷 Ligue 1
📅 Sunday 17 April 2022
⏰ 1945 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ BT Sport Live Streaming

The top two in France meet in what should be a fun contest but will have no actual impact on the Ligue 1 title race.

PSG are running away with the title, 12 points clear at the top and looking comfortable. Mbappe, Neymar and Messi are starting to click on a more regular basis and with their Champions League dreams extinguished for another year their sole priority is reclaiming their Ligue 1 title. The long term future of the club is a little cloudier though, nobody seems to be clear on who the manager will be next season. Mauricio Pocchetino will not become the new Manchester United manager but that doesn’t mean he will be the PSG manager next year. They have not made a decision on who their Sporting Director will be either, and recent reports suggest that their Qatari owners, basically the nation of Qatar, might look to sell the club after the World Cup. Things might change drastically on the French football landscape in the next 12 months.

Marseille have been chaotic for some time now, but Jorge Sampaoli has done a really good job of blocking out the noise and getting his team focused on success. 2nd in the league and into the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League in his first season is an impressive outcome for the Argentine manager. This team plays an entertaining brand of football, with Dimitri Payet enjoying an Indian summer to his career. He recently scored one of the best goals you’ll ever see and seems to be enjoying his football more than at any previous point in his career.

European Football Preview | Spain

Sevilla vs Real Madrid European Football

⚽ Sevilla vs Real Madrid
🇪🇸 La Liga
📅 Sunday 17 April 2022
⏰ 2000 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ La Liga TV Live Streaming

A month ago, this match looked like it could be a title decider but unfortunately Sevilla have fallen off and allowed Madrid to gain a 12 point advantage at the top of the table.

Sevilla are still a team to be respected, despite their recent poor run which saw Real leave them behind in the La Liga standings and West Ham eliminate them from the Europa League. Manager Julen Lopetugui was briefly linked to the Manchester United job and probably should have been given stronger consideration. He’s one of the very best managers in Europe, outstanding at developing young players and adept at adapting his tactical approach to fit the players he has at his disposal. Sevilla retain a strong spine to their team and will cause Madrid issues with their quick transitions and the physicality of their team.

Real might have tired legs after their epic encounter with Chelsea in midweek. Their victory came after going 3-0 down and then fighting back to force extra time, before a Karim Benzema saw them through to the semi-finals 5-4 on aggregate. Real will be fully aware of the fact that this is no longer a must-win game for them and because they are now battling for the two biggest prizes available to them, La Liga and the Champions League, they can afford to be cautious with their players given their 12 point lead in the title race. It may be that the likes of Eduardo Camavinga are given a start in this game to protect players like Luka Modric from burnout.

European Football Preview | Portugal

Sporting Lisbon vs Benfica European Football

⚽ Sporting Lisbon vs Benfica
🇵🇹 Premeira Liga
📅 Sunday 17 April 2022
⏰ 2030 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ BT Sport Live Streaming

A rare trip to Portugal for the preview, but the Lisbon derby is always worth a watch despite neither team having a realistic chance of catching Porto at the top of the table.

Sporting, under the outstanding Ruben Amorim, have been exceptional over the past two seasons. Last year they won the title, this season they will likely finish second. They’ve only lost three of their last 63 league games, they play quality attacking football and are solid defensively. For Amorim to achieve so much at Portugal’s third biggest club, while not spending massive amounts of money compared to Benfica and Porto, and developing young players is very impressive. Especially when you consider the club is often forced to sell players to balance the books. Amorim is primed for a move to a top club in the coming years.

Benfica saw their Champions League run end in midweek but went out on their shield as they battled back for a 3-3 draw at Anfield, which saw them eliminated 6-4 on aggregate by Liverpool. They can be proud of their run, which saw them eliminate Barcelona at the group stage, and Ajax in the round of 16. Darwin Nunez is their star man and it’s him they will rely on once again this weekend. Nunez has been on fire this season, his hattrick against B-SAD last weekend and goal against Liverpool in midweek took him to 32 goals in 37 games across all competitions, including 24 in 24 league games. The young Uruguayan hitman is destined for great things and will be the subject of some massive bids this summer as teams try to pry him away from the Portuguese giants.

European Football Preview | Italy

Napoli vs Roma European Football
⚽ Napoli vs Roma
🇮🇹 Serie A
📅 Monday 18 April 2022
⏰ 1800 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ BT Sport Live Streaming

This one should be a good chance to gauge just where Jose Mourinho’s Roma are in their rebuild under the Portuguese legend, with Napoli a formidable opponent for anyone. Especially on their home ground.

Napoli currently sit third in Seria A, just two points off the top. A disappointing home defeat to Fiorentina last time out denied them the chance to go top of the table and might be a result that ultimately costs them the title in what promises to be a tight run-in. This Napoli team are extremely strong through their spine, with a defence led by the outstanding Kalidou Koulibaly who has rediscovered his best form, a midfield with quality operators like Fabian Ruiz, Zambo Anguissa and Piotr Zielinski, and a front line that is built around Victor Osimhen. Osimhen is key to Napoli’s title charge. For the Naples club to capture their first title since the days of Diego Maradona, the Nigerian striker will need to carry the goalscoring load.

Jose Mourinho wasn’t brought to Rome to finish 5th, and this season would likely be seen as a disappointment if not for their run in the Europa Conference League which has seen them reach the semi-final stage. Roma have issues in defense, and in midfield. Inconsistency has been a major issue, as have individual errors. This team life and die by their attack. If the front three, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Nicolo Zaniolo and Tammy Abraham, are fit and firing, then Roma are a force. Abraham has enjoyed an excellent first season in Rome, scoring 24 goals in 44 games. His partnership with Zaniolo will be massive for Roma over the next couple of years, and if Zaniolo can stay fit then the sky is the limit for them.
