Premier League Match Day 26 | Preview | 2021-22 Season

PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH DAY 26

It’s the 2021/22 Premier League season Match Day 26 and things are starting to get really interesting. Premier League Match Day 26 will be shown by pay-TV broadcasters Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and with match highlights available free on BBC Sport with Match of the Day.

If Liverpool win their game in hand, we might get a title race. There are five teams competing for the fourth Champions League spot, and the bottom of the table is beginning to look really interesting with everyone from Brentford down starting to worry that a bad run of form could see them dragged into the mire if results elsewhere go against them.

Our Premier League Match Day 26 preview is brought to you in partnership with EPL Index, and Dave Hendrick – host of the Two Footed Podcast, offering FREE podcasts to football fans.

So, here’s a preview of three games from Premier League Match Day 26 that should be worth your time this weekend.

Newcastle will travel south this weekend, bringing with them their first three match winning streak since November of 2018. It would be fair to say that the last few seasons have not been fun for Toon fans, but now they finally have some reasons for optimism.

West Ham will prove a far sterner test for the Geordies than Leeds, Everton and Villa but there own recent form has been patchy to say the least. Just one win in four has left their top four hopes in the balance as they have failed to capitalise on the inconsistent form of their rivals for fourth. With Jarrod Bowen riding a hot streak, the Hammers would have hoped for more than four points from games against Leeds, Manchester United, Watford and Leicester. The noise surrounding Kurt Zouma will obviously have been a distraction but David Moyes will want his team to improve massively this weekend.

Newcastle haven’t won four Premier League matches in a row since March of 2018, but will be aware that a draw would be a good result for them at the London Stadium. Currently sitting 17th, their mission will be to extend the gap over Norwich, Watford and Burnley. Overtaking the teams above them would be a bonus, but the only thing that really matters is being out of the top four. Eddie Howe deserves credit for the recent upturn in form and performances and will be hoping that the renewed confidence in his squad will see them pass a tough test this weekend.

Premier League Match Day 26 | Spurs Seek Miracle

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Premier League Match Day 26

⚽ Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur
📅 Saturday 19 February 2022
⏰ 1730 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ Sky Sports Live Streaming

The reigning Premier League Champions took a big step towards confirming their place in the next round of the Champions League with an outstanding display in Lisbon on Tuesday night. Portuguese Champions Sporting CP had no answer for Pep Guardiola’s well oiled machine, who breezed to a 5-0 win.

That victory means City can now rest players for the second leg and keep their focus on the retaining their Premier League crown, which is ominous for their opponents over the next few weeks. City, as has been the case all season, continue to look far better without Jack Grealish in their team. It’s a luxury that no other Premier League manager would be afforded, spending £100million on a player who in no way improves your team, but Pep Guardiola has earned the right to have such luxuries. As the Spaniard closes in on his fourth Premier League title in six years, he will want victory this weekend over one of the two managers who have beaten him to a title in England.

Antonio Conte’s title with Chelsea in 2016/17 might be his greatest achievement, considering the calibre of opposition he was up against. There’s a fair argument to be made that if he can get this Spurs team into the top four by the end of the season it would match many of his other achievements. There’s no doubting that there are a lot of good players in the team, but the mentality is all wrong. Years of stagnation has led to a strain of mediocrity that runs through the entire club. Three defeats on the bounce, when fourth was theirs for the taking, is just the most Spurs of Spurs things. A fourth straight defeat might have Conte contemplating whether he wants to stick around past the summer.

Premier League Match Day 26 | Bruno Bossing Brendan

Wolves vs Leicester City Premier League Match Day 26

⚽ Wolves vs Leicester City
📅 Sunday 20 February 2022
⏰ 1630 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ Sky Sports Live Streaming

If someone had told you before the season that this would be a game between a team in 7th competing for a spot in the top four, and a team in 11th having a poor season, you’d have thought that sounded strange. Sure, Leicester in 7th wouldn’t have been a surprise, but if Wolves were 11th in their first season under a new manager it couldn’t be seen as a bad season after finishing 13th last year.

Instead, Wolves had massively overachieved to sit 7th and have a real chance at hijacking a Champions League spot given that nobody else seems to want to take it for themselves. They are one of the strangest teams in recent memory. Excellent at the back, boasting the league’s second best defensive record, but disappointing in front of goal having scored the third least goals in the division. Bruno Lage has done a fantastic job, and it’s not down to a lack of coaching or planning that Wolves haven’t scored more goals. They create plenty of chances but simply haven’t made the most of them. If they are to achieve the impossible and sneak into the top four, they will need Raul Jimenez and others to step up in front of goal.

Leicester’s season has been a disaster on all fronts. Majorly disappointing in the Premier League, dumped out of the Europa League despite a relatively easy group, beaten by a Championship side in the FA Cup and knocked out of the League Cup by Liverpool’s reserves. Brendan Rodgers decided to throw his players under the bus, as is his way, and it remains to be seen how they will react to that over time. Defensively they have been nothing short of shocking and unless that improves, a bottom half finish seems likely for the Foxes. Rodgers claimed an overhaul of the squad might be needed, but it’s he who should be worried about his future rather than his players.
