After that bizarre boxing event last weekend, let’s get back to normality and start with football.

In the always reliable Bundesliga there’s an absolute belter of a game in store at 5.30pm on Saturday when table toppers Bayern Munich take on second placed RB Leipzig. The best attack in the league vs the best defence in the league. It should be a fantastic game of football, though it will be interesting to see if Julian Nagelsmann shuffles his deck with one eye on Tuesday’s win or go home Champions League match with Manchester United.

Ligue 1’s best offering this weekend is undoubtedly Lille vs Monaco at noon on Sunday. These teams sit 2nd and 4th in the table respectively, though only goal difference separates them. In fact, they are two of four teams currently on 23 points, only 2 points behind league leaders PSG. This has the makings of being the most competitive Ligue 1 season in a long time, especially as Marseille sit 6th with 21 points but two games in hand. PSG aren’t running away with it so far this season. Long may it continue.

5th play 4th in La Liga with Sevilla hosting Real Madrid, at 3.15pm on Saturday, as both teams look to overcome terrible Champions League performances in midweek. Neither team will be happy with their starts to the season, though Sevilla do have a couple of games in hand on some of the teams above them. Real, on the other hand, are rumoured to be nearing crisis mode with a lot of suggestions that defeat in this game could see Zinedine Zidane depart the club he’s managed to three Champions League successes.

Sunday at 7.45pm is the kick-off time for the pick of the bunch in Serie A. Sampdoria take on AC Milan at the historic Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Milan are currently 5 points clear at the top of the table and are an excellently balanced team boasting the second best attack and second best defense in the league. Sampdoria have been inconsistent to start the season, as they are for the duration of most seasons it must be said, but do play a good brand of football and clashes between these two bring back great memories of the glory years when Serie A ruled the footballing world.

There is lots and lots of Rugby once again this weekend. Internationals? Check. Guinness Pro 14? Check. Gallagher Premiership? Check. Starting with the internationals, Australia take on Argentina in the Tri-Nations on Saturday morning. The two sides played out a hard fought draw two weeks ago and will lock horns again.

In the Autumn Nations Cup, it’s the play-off finals stage. Three games on Saturday and one on Sunday. First up on Saturday in the 7th and 8th place match-up it’s Georgia vs Fiji at noon, though it should be noted that this game likely won’t go ahead as Fiji have not fulfilled any of their fixtures so far. Then, weirdly, it’s the 3rd and 4th place match-up as Ireland take on Scotland at 2.15pm and lastly it’s the 5th and 6th place match-up of Wales and Italy at 4.30pm. The final is Sunday, with England taking on France at 2pm. These games are live on Amazon Prime.

The two Guinness Pro14 games this weekend see Connacht take on Benetton on Friday evening at 7.35pm, while Glasgow meet the Dragons at 7.15pm on Saturday, both games are live on Premier Sports.

In the Gallagher Premiership it’s Bristol vs Northampton on Friday at 7.45pm, Leicester hosting Exeter, Wasps against Newcastle and Worcester taking on Bath all at 3pm on Saturday and London Irish vs Sale at 2.30pm on Sunday followed by Gloucester vs Harlequins at 4.15pm. In boxing, there’s a must see fight this weekend. The man seen by some as the current best boxer on the planet, reigning WBC and IBF Welterweight Champion Errol Spence Jr takes on the dangerous Danny Garcia. Spence, 26-0, makes his return to the ring after a 15 month hiatus. Last time out he defeated Shawn Porter in a fight of the year contender by split decision. Porter is actually one of the only two men to have beaten Garcia, 36-2, with the other being Keith Thurmond. These are two top level fighters and surely the winner will sign up to fight Terence Crawford next. Spence vs Crawford is the fight everyone wants to see. Everyone other than Garcia that is.

The UFC are, as always, running an event this weekend. While this is undoubtedly a second tier event, headlined by a Middleweight contest between Jack Hermansson and Marvin Vettori. The two veterans are both looking to build on good performances during the summer and build themselves into contention for a shot at Middleweight King Israel Adesanya. The fighter to keep an eye on during the undercard fights is Russian Featherweight Movsar Evloev who brings a perfect 13-0 record into his fight with Nate Landwehr. Evloev is a former M-1 Global Champion who has won all three of his UFC fights in comfortable fashion.

As the NFL trundles on with its season, not allowing Covid outbreaks, injuries or teams having no recognised quarterbacks available to play coming between them and sticking to their schedule for the Superbowl, there are some fascinating games this weekend. The first one to keep an eye on is a meeting between two teams with 8-3 records who are chasing playoff spots. The Tennessee Titans will welcome the Cleveland Browns to Nashville in a game that is likely to be decided by which team can impose their running game earliest, and whether Derrick Henry or the Browns tandem of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt makes the bigger impact.

The NFC West matchup of the 6-5 Arizona Cardinals and the 7-4 LA Rams will go a long way towards determining which of these teams make the playoffs this season. Head Coaches Kliff Kingsbury and Sean McVay are both seen as creative offensive geniuses and this should be a high scoring game. It will likely come down to which former number 1 draft pick, Kyler Murray or Jared Goff, has the better performance.

And finally, the Kansas City Chiefs vs the Denver Broncos. The Chiefs are 10-1 on the season, while the Broncos are 4-7. The Chiefs are probably the best team in the NFL and are favourites to repeat as Superbowl Champions., while the Broncos are one of the most disappointing teams of the season and last week had to field a wide receiver at quarterback because all of their recognised quarterbacks were injured or ill. This game likely won’t be competitive, but you should still watch it. You should watch it purely to see the Patrick Mahomes show. Mahomes is the best player in the league, the favourite to win his second MVP in three years and the owner of a $500mil contract. This young man is the present and the future of the NFL. Never miss a chance to watch him play.

And that’s that. It’s a pretty packed schedule, with really good offerings from all corners. No matter what your sporting preferences are, there’s something on for you this weekend. Settle into your favourite armchair, order up a take-away, switch on your Liberty Shield VPN and enjoy the action while keeping your data safe.
