Premier League Match Day 35 Preview | 2021-22 Season

PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH DAY 35 PREVIEW

Premier League Match Day 35 is here and the nerves are kicking in. As per usual Premier League Match Day 35 will be shown by pay-TV broadcasters Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and with match highlights available free on BBC Sport with Match of the Day.

We still have a proper title race, with Liverpool hoping for just one Manchester City slip-up to enable them to grab top spot. We have a race for top four, which appears to be narrowing to North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham and may well be decided when the Gunners visit Spurs in a couple of weeks, and we have a relegation scrap with Leeds nervously looking over their shoulder, Burnley slowly clawing their way out of the bottom three and Everton beginning to really panic.

Newcastle vs Liverpool Premier League Match Week 35

⚽ Newcastle vs Liverpool
📅 Saturday 30 April 2022
⏰ 1230 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ BT Sport Live Streaming

The two most in form sides of 2022 come face to face on Saturday in the early kick-off at St James’ Park. Eddie Howe has transformed the Toon from a relegation contender to a top half team over the past four months, while Liverpool chase the impossible dream of a quadruple.

Newcastle have improved immeasurably from the sad lot they were under Steve Bruce. They were a team heading in only one direction under the now West Brom manager, and that was down. Howe, aided by the wealth of the new owners, has already began to reshape the squad and you have to expect that there will be significant business done this summer as well. With Bruno Guimaraes at the hub of the team, and the attacking talents of Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron all experiencing resurgences in recent months.

Toon have improved defensively, but Spurs did give them a hammering just a few weeks ago and they haven’t played anyone of Liverpool’s calibre during their good run of form so this will be a big test for them.

Liverpool are currently riding a wave of momentum that may prove too much for anyone to stop. With Thiago Alcantara dictating games for them in the middle of the park, Jurgen Klopp’s men look close to unbeatable. They received a massive boost this week as Klopp himself extended his contract at the club until 2026, with an option for two more years. Klopp’s commitment to the club, and the clubs commitment to him, is a message to the rest of the Premier League that Liverpool aren’t going away any time soon.

Liverpool can’t afford any slip-ups, this game is a must win for them as they look to keep the pressure on Manchester City.

Premier League Match Day 35 | Yorkshire Pudding

Leeds vs Man City Premier League Match Week 35

⚽ Leeds United vs Manchester City
📅 Saturday 30 April 2022
⏰ 1730 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ Sky Sports Live Streaming

City face a trip to Leeds that, on paper, looks straight forward but this is the type of games in which City have dropped points in this season.

Under Jesse Marsch, Leeds managed to arrest the slide under Marcelo Bielsa which had seen them plummet towards the relegation zone. It’s been a difficult season for the Yorkshire club, who have had terrible luck with injury and were forced to part ways with the legendary Argentine manager in order to save their season. Marsch has improved the team from a defensive point of view, abandoning the man to man approach of Bielsa. He has used the aggressive aspects of Bielsa’s game plan to aid the pressing style he likes when his team lose possession but the American prefers a more balanced approach than the Argentine.

With Patrick Bamford injured, Leeds do lack a recognised goal threat but with a front four of Raphinha, Rodrigo, Daniel James and Jack Harrison, they have pace, movement and creativity and can cause teams problems, especially if Raphinha is in the mood.

City overcame Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday and are still chasing the Champions League/Premier League double. The midweek game was frantic and will have taken a lot out of a group of players currently dealing with some injuries. They picked up another injury as John Stones, who had just come back from a muscle issue, was forced off with a the same issue and is likely to miss a couple of games now. Kyle Walker’s fitness remains a question mark so Pep Guardiola might have to get creative at right-back, especially with that second leg against Madrid on the horizon.

City will go into this game in second place if Liverpool beat Newcastle, so the pressure will be on them to respond and retake top spot. We haven’t seen this City team under pressure very often so it’ll be interesting to see how they react.

Premier League Match Day 35 | Capital Duel

West Ham vs Arsenal Premier League Match Week 35

⚽ West Ham vs Arsenal
📅 Sunday 1 May 2022
⏰ 1630 UK Kick-Off
🖥️ Sky Sports Live Streaming

This game could go one of two ways. The Hammers should be attempting get three points to help them secure European football for next season, but with this game falling between the two legs of their Europa League semi-final David Moyes might well play a heavily rotated side which could make it a fairly straight forward affair for the visiting Gunners.

This season has been a success for West Ham, no matter what happens from here on. David Moyes has rebuilt and reshaped the club brilliantly over the last two and a half seasons, giving West Ham fans the best two year span most of them will ever have experienced. To have maintained a top seven spot in the Premier League while also going on a major European adventure is a huge achievement, especially considering their small squad and lack of true depth in key positions. Moyes is giving himself, and the club, a great platform to build from next season but needs to ensure that it includes European football.

Regardless of the first leg outcome, Moyes can’t put all his eggs in one Europa League basket and needs to ensure that his team stay well positioned to take a European spot via the league positions next season.

Arsenal won’t get a better chance of a top four finish than this. With Spurs seemingly set on throwing away the possibility of Champions League football, the Gunners now find themselves back in pole position to grab 4th. Back to back wins over disappointing Chelsea and Manchester United teams, combined with Spurs losing to Brighton and drawing at Brentford, mean that Arsenal now control their own destiny. With Spurs having the more favourable run-in, which includes a game between the sides at the Tottenham Stadium, Arsenal need to ensure they don’t drop points in the rest of their games.

With Spurs and United likely to be much improved next season, the time to get 4th is now for Arsenal. Fail to do so, and it might be several years before they have the chance again.
